Al revés / Top down

Maybe you have noticed I have an acute case of startitis.

In any case, I'm going to start showing you the consequences of this disease.

Today, I'm showing you this cardi I started last Saturday. The color is a bit livelier than you can see in the pictures. It was going to be blue all the way down, but since I'm afraid I won't have enough yarn, I've decided to insert a few rows in a contrasting green color.

I just started this without gauge swatches or measuring of any kind. For a top down, I just imagine how many stitches I'll need from the neck and started from there. Anyway, I'll just try it on as I go. And I've knit quite so much already!

The idea of using cables in the fronts and raglan increases came from an old Knitty pattern, but I did not use the pattern per se.

I was thinking of a cardi hitting just above the hip, but I'm afraid the yarn will not be enough. So it'll have 3/4 sleeves and it will probably be shorter in the front, with rounded borders. Let's see what the garment decides it wants to be.

And now, let's see the problems I'm having:

1. As it was bound to happen, since I didn't bother with swaps or measures, the neck was a bit high and narrow.
I had thought of a bigger collar, but I now think I'll just knit a few rows up as finishing and nothing else. What do you think?

2. I don't quite know how to solve the ending of the cables at the armsyce. As you see, there's this cable travelling down from neck to underarm. And what there? I tried to make decreases so as to lose it in the imaginary side seam, but it doesn't look that good.
Then again, who's gonna look at my armpits...

PD: Mis manos no son realmente amarillas!
PS: My hands are not really that yellow!

Intercambios / Swaps

I'm devoting today's post to show you what I got from the two swaps I joined, so I can properly thank my secret pals, and to show you all the goodies.

To begin with, we have the local swap, from the Argentine Ravelers. The person in charge of spoiling me was Vero, blogless, but who can be found in Ravelry anyway.

I have to tell you what you will not find in this pic: the tasty teas and the chocolate who were taken care of in no time at all.

Now, what I can show you, is this gorgeous ball of mohair yarn, with which I'll knit myself a neck warmer, or a cowl, or a scarf... I don't know what yet!

Y también este tejido que ven abajo. Parece una nubecita, no?
And also this beatiful knit you can see below. Doesn't it look like a little cloud?

¡Me encantó!
Not really. It is a beautiful shawl/poncho/bolero which I've already worn the same day I got it. Thank you Vero! As is common to all of us knitters, we seldom get any knitting gifts. I really appreciate this one!

Interlude: now go get a cup of coffee, tee, whatever suits your taste, this is a long post!

Listo. Seguimos?
There. Shall we?

And now let's proceed to the swap organized by chrissythegreat, for her pod The Manic Purl.

I got two gorgeous minhanks of Lorna's laces in one of my favorite colors (purple), another ball of Tofutsies, which I also love, wooden DPNs for all that sock knitting, and some other knick knacks (did you see the fun measuring tape and the gorgeous stitch markers? And what about the knitting pouch? Aren't they the cutest thing?)

Mi secret pal fue Andrea de Arizona. Gracias!

I've been eyeing this yarn holders for a while in different blogs. I really like them.
So why not do it myself?

So here it is. It's great for putting the yarn ball/cake in, instead of having it roll around, or to stash it in a plastic bag.

You put the yarn inside the bowl and thread it through the slit. You then pull the yarn through there.

¿Necesario? No.
Neccesary? No.
¿Lindo? Siiiii!
Beautiful? YES!
Specs:
Handthrown stoneware, high temperature glazing. Induction kiln.

Fénix / Phoenix

¡Terminado!
Finished! Sorry for the crappy pic, we do what we can around here. And as you can see, your wish is my command dears, red buttons they are.

Specs.:
Acrílico/Acrílic: Laxul
Cantidad/Weight: 750 gr (whoa!)
Agujas/Needles: 6,5 mm
Talle/Size: XL

It is nicer than it shows in the picture. I would have liked it to be longer, but that is as much yarn as I had, and I dind't want to buy another hank. The front band could hab been looser, too.

All in all, it fits its purpose completely. What I wanted was a small vest to take to my pottery workshop, something I could wear to work at the heel without freezing, and without shedding tears over a stain. This beauty goes straight from wheel to washing machine.

Do you like this? It's a ceramic plate I stamped and decorating using natural pigments to give it a vintage look. To me it looks like it is part of the remains of an old building.
It now works as a soap holder for my tub.

Yo no se... / I don't know...

(y desde hace rato) qué pasa por la cabeza de la gente /(and haven't known for a while) what's going on in people's heads.

We all know there are some safety issues within our communities. But it's still a long shot to go buy yourself a lion to guard your shackle...

sobre todo porque...
particularly since it is...

es un...
an...

perro interesantemente depilado?
interestingly shaved dog?

I wonder if I'm going to need a real one of these dogs, or maybe I can pass my current one as a lion dog, the same this other person did, whomever she/he may be.

NO???
I don't know, I'm confused now, I think my meds are running short... this can't be true, right? RIGHT?

PD: vieron la cara de ambos pichichos?
PS: have you seen the look on these dogs faces?

Brotherlines

¡Qué satisfacción presentarles un tejido terminado!
How satisfying it is to show you a finished knit!

Here is my Brotherlines, finished and modelled (and photographed by mi friend Joji -thank you!)

In this picture you can see how the cables go in and out again, as well as bias panels at the front sides. The sleeves are not long, and not short enough. They stay as they are, though. You can also see here the the band I knitted on the bottom. It is not there in the original pattern, but mine came out too short and I had to add it. I took up the cast on stitches after the sweater was finished and knitted down the bottom band. At least, it plays along with the cuffs.

In this back shot you can see there are no cables, but two lines following the same figure as the calbes in front. The side panels are not biased.

All things considered, this was a satisfactory knit. I think it fits well and is interesting to knit it. The pattern is quite involved, particularly in the front. You have to add stitches for the bias panels, then you have to keep adding while reducing, in order to shape the cables. And then you have to add the sleeve and neck decreases.
The yarn is super warm.
I'd knit it again in the future.
Specs:
Patrón/Pattern: Sidelines Top (Rav Link), Lou Schiela, Interweave Knits, Fall 08
Not the best choice for this project, the thick and think texture somewhat obscured the cables).
Agujas/Needles: 4mm circulares
LOL
Final note: some people have asked before why Brotherlines instead of the original Sidelines. It's because when I was waiting to be released from hospital after the gallbladder surgery, my brother, out of sheer boredom, tried three stitches in this sweater. LOL

Correo postal / The Post Office

Fenix necesita botones / The Phoenix needs some buttons

Terminé mi chalequito, tan destejido y vuelto a empezar (ergo Fenix, soy taaaan inteligente ;-)
¿Qué pensará la blogaudiencia off Ravelry?

I've finished my vest, the one who has been knitted and tinked (ergo Fenix, I'm smart like that ;-)
I also have to sets of vintage buttons I could use, but I cannot decide which ones are better. What does the blogaudience think?

(vamos, opinen tod@s, che, rojo o negro?)
(come on everybody, red or black?)

Caveat emperor: the first pics are overesposed, the colors are truer in the last one.
