A mi me encanta. Es super recontra calentito, cómodo, sport, ponible.
I love it. It's super warm, comfortable, casual, wearable.

Hilado/Yarn: Porteña - Disma (hermoso hilado 100% lana, gran definición de los puntos / beautiful 100% yarn, great stitch definition)
Agujas/Needles: 4 mm
Patrón/Pattern: improvisado/improvised

¿Lana o acrílico? / Wool or acrylic?

¿No detestan comprar madejas sin etiquetas, y tener la impresión de que la persona que les vende el hilado les dice lo que se ve que ustedes quieren escuchar? Yo soy bastante desconfiada. A las madejas etiquetadas en la hilandería les creo un poco más, pero cuando no hay etiqueta... hmmm.

Don't you hate buying skeins with no label (note to my foreing readers, in my country, it's very rare that for yarns to have a label, you usually have to trust the sales person) and feel the salesperson is telling you what you want to hear? I'm very wary of salespeople in general. Whenever the yarn has a label, I more or less believe it, but when there isn't.... hmmm.

Hace tiempo que vengo escuchando el método de quemar un poco de hilado y ver qué pasa. Si se desintegra como ceniza, es lana. Si se hace pelotitas, es nylon. La mezcla, tiene algo de ambas.

I've been hearing about the burning method for quite some time. Basically, you should burn a lenght of yarn and see how it behaves. If the remains are just ash, then it's wool. If it makes little balls, then it's acrylic. Then you have different mixtures.

Como soy una pesona muuuuy curiosa, decidí ponerme el traje antiflama y experimentar.

Since I'm also very curious, I decided to don my fireproof suit and experiment a bit.

Probé con estos cuatro hilados: hilado de tweed de origen desconocido (suponía que sería mezcla de acrílico y lana); merino comprado en Nube; abajo a la izquierda, merino Reina, comprado en Maitén; al final, lana 100% comprada en Lanas Patagónicas.

I tried these four yarns from my stash: some tweed of unknown origin (I thought it was a mix); merino purchased at Nube; on the lower left corner merino Reina purchased at Maitén; and finally, 100% wool purchased at Lanas Patagónicas.

Con algo más de detalle, vemos que el tweed resultó ser en su mayor parte acrílico, con algo de lana:

Now for the details, we can see that the tweed turned out to be, indeed, mostly acrylic with some percentaje of wool:

La lana comprada en Nube como 100% merino, resultó tener acrílico (más lana que acrílico, pero de todos modos, me siento engañada).
The yarn purchased at Nube as 100% merino, turned out to have some acrylic in it too (mostly wool, but still... not what I was told).

Merino Reina, de Maitén: 100% lana merino (100% merino wool).

Lana de oveja, de Lanas Patagónicas: también 100% lana.

Wool, from Lanas Patagónicas: also 100% wool fiber.

Fue una buena experiencia, lástima que no pueda ir con un encendedor a probar así las lanas en los negocios! No tengo nada contra el acrílico, en cierta proporción puede aportar mucho a un hilado, incluso hay prendas que salen mejor en acrílico. Lo que no me gusta es que me mientan.

It was a good experience, too bad, though, that I cannot go into the store with a lighter and "try" the yarn, huh? Now, I don't have anything against acrylic, in fact, to some extent, I think they can enhance some yarns. But I don't like being taken in.

Ahora / Now,

1. agradézcanme que el olor a quemado no se puede poner en el blog, porque mi cocina apesta a lana quemada. / Be thankful that I did this myself in my own kitchen, which now reeks of burned sheep.

2. si alguna sabe qué debería pasar con el algodón, por favor cuénteme! / Should anyone know what should happen to cotton, please drop me a note!

3. díganme si les interesa que siga incendiando mi stash, a ver qué tienen los hilados sin etiqueta que nos venden como lana. / Tell me if you are interested in me burning up my whole stash for determining what the heck I've got in there.

Adelanto / Preview

Muy brevecito el post: les muestro un adelanto de la chaqueta que estoy tratando de diseñar (¿se acuerdan? estaba acá).

Les hubiera mostrado más, pero la luz hoy no era buena y las demás fotos salieron más puaj que esta!

I would have shown you more, but I didn't have enough light today, and the other pictures were even more sucky than this one.

Acá pueden ver el inicio (se acuerdan que es top-down), donde monté los puntos sobre un hilo auxiliar para levantarlos después y hacer el cuello. Ven también los aumentos de la sisa, que están hechos con doble guía, porque me gusta nomás.

So, what you can see here is the beginning of this top-down, where I did a provisional cast-on that will later allow me to pick up the neck stitches.

You can also see the raglan increases, with a double guide, just cause I like it like that.

E, inesperadamente, esta lana hace rayitas. Rayitas blancas y negras. Capaz que me queda así:

Unexpectedly, this wool is striping. Black and white stripes. I'm afraid I'm going to end up looking like this:

Qué hacer un domingo / What to do on a Sunday

La receta de este budincito bien económico se lo pasó a mi papá una señora que lo llamaba "budín de guerra", porque lleva tan poquitos ingredientes y es lo que podían hacer en Europa en la época de la Segunda Guerra.
This very economical recipe was given to my dad by a neighbour who called it "war pudding", since it takes so few ingredients, and it's the only kind of pastry her family could make during WWII in Europe.

Les presento a los protagonistas:
Meet the cast:





Leche/Milk: 1 taza/cup
Azúcar/Sugar: 1 taza/cup
Harina leudante / Self rising flour: 2 cups
Huevo/Eggs: 1
Aceite neutro /Cooking oil: 1 tablespoon

Hasta aquí, lo escencial /So far, the essencials.

Yo le agregué una cdta de escencia de vainilla y 1 pocillo de chocolate en polvo.
I added a teaspoon of vanilla extract and half a cup of chocolate powder.

Hay que mezclar (no batir) el huevo, el aceite y el azúcar (y, en este caso, la escencia y el chocolate). Luego agregar la leche y la harina.
You just have to mix (not whip) the egg with the oil and sugar (and, in this case, the extract and chocolate). Then you mix in the milk and flour.

Horno moderado 40 minutos.
Medium oven for 40 minutes.

También se le puede reemplazar parte de la leche con jugo de naranja o algún licor. Pueden sumarle fruta seca, pasas de uva, chispas de chocolate, fruta fresca, fruta en lata, da para todo.
Una de mis combinaciones preferidas es chocolate con peras frescas. Yummy.
You can also replace some of the milk and use orange juice or your favorite liquor. You can also add nuts, raisins, chocolate chips, fresh frut, canned fruit.
One of my favorite combinations is this chocolate pudding with fresh pears. Yummy.

Bloganiversario / Bloganiversay

Caramba, un año pasó desde acá. Curiosamente, el título de ese primer post era "Cómo cambian las cosas"... y de hecho, cuánto han cambiado desde entonces. El blog resultó ser un buen registro para mí.
Weird, a full year has past since this. Funny enough, the title of that post was something like "Thigs do change"... and Boy, have things changed over here, during the last year. This blog turned out to be a good reminder of sorts.

Ayer nos reunimos varias tejedoras argentinas en un evento de tejido solidario auspiciado por Coats.
Quite a few knitters met yesterday in the charity event organized by Coats.

Lo pasé muy bien, a pesar del calor abrumador y el ruido (los parlantes no paraban de atronar música de fondo).
I had a very nice time, in spite of the overwhelming heat and the noices (the speakers never stopped blasting some background music)

Lo lindo, como siempre, fue reunirme con otras tejedoras, compartir experiencias y un rato de tejido.
As usual, the nice thing was meeting with other knitters, sharing experiences and a knitting afternoon.

Chaqueta / Winter jacket

Bueno, llegó el invierno y esta tejedora tiene medias, bufandas, gorros, guantes y sweaters, pero lo que no tiene, es un buen saconcito de lana. ¡En casa de herrero cuchillo de palo!
So, winter is finally here and this knitter has socks, scarves, hats, gloves and sweaters, but she doens't have a good old wool jacket.

Esta situación debe ser remediada a la brevedad. De modo que tengo esta lana (probablemente de corriedale):
This situation needs to be corrected ASAP. So here, I have this wool (probably corriedale):




Y tengo ganas de hacer una chaquetita del estilo de lo que les puse acá debajo (pueden cliquear para agrandar):
And I feel like knitting a jacket along the lines of my sketch below (you can click to embiggen):



Como ven, es una chaqueta abierta con un moderado cruce en el frente, donde presenta un panel de punto arroz que se hace más ancho hacia el borde inferior. El cuello también sería de punto arroz y se me ocurrió que, para que tenga más amplitud en la parte de la panza (!) y la cadera (!!), a lo mejor quedaba bueno hacerle unos godets en punto arroz también. Para hacer juego, haríad dos godets más pequeños en las mangas, que quedarían amplias, tipo campana.
As you can see, it's a front opened jacket with a moderate overlap of the front panels, knit in seed stitich and a bit wider on the bottom. The neck would also be knit in this stitch. I figured that in order to make room for the belly (!) and the hips (!!), it might be nice to knit these wedges in seed stitch on the front and back. And for style, I'd insert a smaller wedge on each sleeve too, and I'd get some sort of bell sleeves.

En la parte inferior del torso y las mangas haría 5 cm de punto arroz también, y lo cerraría todo con botones o alamares o ganchos o quién sabe, es lo de menos.
On the bottom of the jacket and sleeves, I'd knit 5 cm in seed stitch and would. For closure, some sort of button or something, not important at this stage.

Me encantaría que le dieran una mirada y me dijeran que opinan, si se les ocurre algo más copado, o si ven algún error que se me esté escapando (un godet de cada lado, o dos más angostos? El godet de los brazos lo pongo en la parte de abajo, o de afuera del brazo? Me convendrá hacer los detalles en punto arroz o en Santa Clara? etc. etc., etc.).
I'd love for you to look at this and tell me what you think, maybe you have some pointers for style or construction, or you might spot some mistake I'm missing (i.e.: should I knit one wedge each side, or 2 narrower wedges on each side? Should I really bother with the sleeve wedges? Would it be better to use purl stitches for the panels? And a million questions issues that).

Voy a tejer esta prenda en circulares, desde el cuello hacia los bajos. Y, redoble de tambores, aprovechando que es pura lana, voy a tejerlo completamente en redondo, y se viene el steek.
I'm going to knit this in the round, from the top down and... since it's pure wool I'd be doing my first steek ever.

Medias nuevas / New socks

Casi siempre me enamoro un poco de mis tejidos apenas los termino. Miren estas medias, no son hermosas?
I'm almost always bessoted with my knitted stuff, as it comes off the needles. Look at these socks, aren't they lovely?
