No adivinaron?

Long time no read, uh? The thing is, I got myself a spinning wheel and I'm a bit obsessed. You know me, one obsession at a time...

La rueca que compré es esta.
This is the wheel I got.

It was so hard at first, because the wheel didn't work. Until my dear spinning friend Alepont discovered that I had put it together... well... wrong :-(

After that, I started learning. I'm actually so happy because I've had it since Sunday (so 6 days today). The learning curve has actually been exponencial each day. Though I still have loads to learn, at least I'm learning!

/ This is the first thing I spun:
Estaba medio desanimada.
Pretty thick and almost no twist. I was a bit sad about it.

Then I did this one. A bit better, too much twist at some points, too little at others. This is a constant (not that I worry about it at this point). It's thick and thin and quite fragile, I broke it a gazillion times when doing the Z twist. It weights 60 gr and it's 315 m long

This other one is a two strand thick and thin, done with some of the white fiber (slightly better spun) and the beige one you've seen in the previous picture. It came out very thick, 60 gr and 63 m.
40 gr 140 m
And this last ball, is a rest of the same white fiber together with a strand of commercial mohair I have in my stash. It's 40 gr and 140 m

ahhhh, toycontenta!
I'm so happy!

Gracias a todas las que me aconsejaron!
Thank you all of you guys for your advice and recommendations!

Super boina

¿Qué les parece mi nueva boina?Es un diseño de mi amiga Alba. Lo pueden conseguir en Ravelry.
What do you think of my new tam? It's a design by my friend Alba. You can get it here on Ravelry.

The yarn, oh so divine, it's also a present from Alba. It's an off-white merino, so warm, and with a zero itchiness factor.

Isnt't it lovely? I did it as a presente, but I liked it so much it's staying with me. Sorry friend, I'll knit another one for you!

A brief recount of my weekend in Uruguay.

To begin with, look at this picture. Boy, we look so sad. That's the general tone of the trip.

(Yo luzco mi Eliina shawl y mi Simple vest, Virginia luce su Otoño Shawl).
(I'm wearing my Eliina shawl and a Simple vest, Virginia is wearing her Otoño Shawl).

See how bad it was at Manos del Uruguay's outlet, where there were only tree other bins like this.

Look at my poor friend Alba (who received us so well and was such a gracious hostess). I felt kind of guilty putting her through this ordeal:

(¿no es genial el cartel?)
(isn't the poster great? It reads: "knitting is my yoga")

See how terrible it was for her, she felt constraint to ask her own big bow for support.
See too the terrible time my friend Veriton had. Boy I'm terrible, the things I do to my friends...

Anyway, don't you thint that all we did was yarn shopping (en Manos del Uruguay, Abuelita Yarns and Puro Punto, three excellent outlets for your knitting delight).

También hubo algo como esto:
There was this too:

Tengan miedo, tengan MUCHO miedo...
Be afraid, be VERY afraid...

Textured shawl

Today I bring you the Textured shawl I recently finished.

It's a very simple knit, nice looking and quite warm.

You'll imagine how much I like it, since it's the second one I knit (this is the other one).

I used two different color skeins of aplca, one in a nice petrol color, and the other in navy blue. It turned out that both yarns together produced a nice blend of a quite interesting shade o blue.

Sometimes I get bored of everything, what could be better, then, than trying a new technique?

I was having some fun with two squares of tunisian crochet. One of them is done in a boring horizontal stitch (still nice, though):

y el otro en forma oblicua:
and the other as a V:

I then crocheted both squares together and I now have a beautiful and useful potholder.
It's quite thick: the technique eats up a lot of yarn, and it's double to top it all. Now I won't get my little fingers burnt any more!

To bad though, I like it a lot and don't want to use it for real!

Brrr.
How do you like this dickie? It's obviously not meant to be worn on top of a camisole, as in the picture. But imagine it under a heavy winter coat, in the midst of winter: Brrr

The yarn is so delicious, soft as a baby bum. I've never had another knit so soft (except for Saroyan, knit with the same yarn)

Here's my usual gratuitous close up Shot.

Y así se ve planito, planito.
And a flat image.

Mondo Cable

Finalmente terminé el Mondo Cable. Acá te lo muestro:
I've finally finished my Mondo Cable. Here it is:

I like the yarn so much (can you see the soft lilac flakes?). And the vintage buttons are so fun (to me). They were my mother's, so they are at least 50 years old.

It's a top down knit, no sewing required (yeah!). The neck band is knitted horizontally, picking up the neck stitches as you go. Very easy.

Kushu Kushu (la anémona)

¿Te acordás cuando compré esto?
Do you remember I purchased this?

Bueno, se convirtió en esto otro:
Well, it turned into this other thing:

To me, it's a work of wonder.

Merino, seda, acero... me encanta mi kushu kushu ;-)
Merino, silk, steel... I love my kushu kushu

The silk wrapped steel is the most exotic thing I've ever knitted this far. And this stole is one of the most tedious knits ever. But you've got to love the results.

Otro cardi para BB / And yet another baby cardi

Looks like the recent arrival of a couple of babies around me has been inspired some spontaneous baby knits.

I had just one skein of this wonderful color, and nothing to do with it (well, so to speak...). On the other hand, I was feeling like knitting something nice, fast, not to think to much about it. So I grabbed the yarn and started improvising.

This lacey cardigan came out. I lake the lace on the top, with the buttons just to the waist, and the way it can open up below, showing a bit of delighful baby belly. I did short rows on the shoulders. I only crotcheted a row around the neck for finishing.

Me parece que este va para Candelaria.
This looks right for baby Candelaria.

I knitted this little baby jacket/cardi at the request of my dear friend lanalife, soon to be a granny for the first time.

It is extremely simple, what I like the best was devising a way to knit it almost seamlesly and being able to finish it using a knitted on i-cord, that lends itself so beautiful to adorn raw edges:

Here's a closer shot of the buttons and the i-cord I love so much!

Specs:
Patrón / Pattern: my own.
Hilado / Yarn: Amancay by Milana, 50%/50% lana y acrílico (wool/acrylic), aprox, 75 gr
Agujas / Needles: 4 mm

I've been wanting to have some felted slippers for, like... for ever. Finally, a few days ago I took the plunge and made myself this beautiful slippers. First, I knitted them on extremely big needles, and I then felted them in the washer, with super hot water.

Arent' they cute? The details are needle felted decorations, using some of the wonderfully colored fleece my friend Ale produces.

Eeepa.

Meet Da Monster. Just so that you knos, each of the planks where I've pinned this beast is 1 mt (+3 ft) long.

Otro cardi listo! / Another finished cardi!

Another finished cardi, just in time to be free for the Ravelympics!

It's a very simple cardigan, top down, so not a single stitch to sew (YEAH!). It has raglan sleeves, quite wide button bands and a half turtleneck.

El color es bastante bocinón.
The color is quite flashy.

Acá va un detallecito de la sisa:
Raglan detail:

And another totally gratuitous shot:

I totally love it, it is EXACTLY what I wanted it to be.
