Chaqueta / Winter jacket

N1H1
So, winter is finally here and this knitter has socks, scarves, hats, gloves and sweaters, but she doens't have a good old wool jacket.

This situation needs to be corrected ASAP. So here, I have this wool (probably corriedale):

And I feel like knitting a jacket along the lines of my sketch below (you can click to embiggen):

As you can see, it's a front opened jacket with a moderate overlap of the front panels, knit in seed stitich and a bit wider on the bottom. The neck would also be knit in this stitch. I figured that in order to make room for the belly (!) and the hips (!!), it might be nice to knit these wedges in seed stitch on the front and back. And for style, I'd insert a smaller wedge on each sleeve too, and I'd get some sort of bell sleeves.

On the bottom of the jacket and sleeves, I'd knit 5 cm in seed stitch and would. For closure, some sort of button or something, not important at this stage.

I'd love for you to look at this and tell me what you think, maybe you have some pointers for style or construction, or you might spot some mistake I'm missing (i.e.: should I knit one wedge each side, or 2 narrower wedges on each side? Should I really bother with the sleeve wedges? Would it be better to use purl stitches for the panels? And a million questions issues that).

I'm going to knit this in the round, from the top down and... since it's pure wool I'd be doing my first steek ever.

Amable blogaudiencia, sáquense las ganas de opinar. ¡Gracias!
Dear blogaudience, feel free to express yourselves. ¡TKS!

That yarn looks so warm and cozy!

And - Andrea! You are going to design a coat??? The sketch looks awesome, but I'm not the one to help you. I have a long way to go before I can do that!

Can I be you when I grow up, pretty please????

Plus, we all know what happened to the "red" socks..... Ask Paul. ;)

Seeee.

Daniele, I've kind of been doing it for a long time, being a big girl in a country where the magazines only carry patterns up to size 8 has kind of forced my hand. Though I've never done it so deliberately and thoughtfully (and the outcome is still to be seen) LOL
