Qué manguita peculiar / What a strange looking sleeve

This is the black merino sweater I'm knitting full force in order to try and finish before the summer comes along. I'd like to wear it at least once this year. Also, it was one of my entries for the Ravelry UFOlympics.

I was happy, I was plodding along and finished the knitting part. I sewed up the shoulders. I attached one sleeve... there was a lot of fabric there... what is all this rouching on the sleeve cap?

¿Qué es esta porquería de manga princesa?
What is this awful sleeve doing here?

I'm showing you a pic cause I feel I cannot deprive you of such an enormous mistake. LOL. I have to frog at least five cms of each sleeve cap. Oh well, I didn't make it for the olympics, but it is almost finished.
Who do I have to get in touch with to delay summer a little bit?

El botín / The treasure

La última compra que hice. No se ve impresionante, así toda junta?
My latest foraging into the yarn stores. Ain't it impressive?

Clockwise, from the upper left corner: brown Amancay (50% wook, 50% acrylic), mint Amancay menta, more brown Amancay, Berocco suede, Berocco paper, Lanagrossa Teamcolor Holland, rustic cotton, Lanagrossa Teamcolor Great Britain, Lanagrossa Teamcolor Argentina, Silk/cotton blend Knitty.
Enjoy the fumes with me, I'm not stashing any more for some time.
So that you know why I'm saying this: when you go into a yarn shop and the owner greets you, remembers you as customer, gives you the opportunity to complain about a yarn you bought before and turned out being poor quality and proceeds to offer you a rather nice discount, and then gives you their business card... I don't know, seems to me I'm buying more than what I'm actually knitting (I was also offered a business card at the notions store, I'm freaking out a bit, please bear with me!)

Teñido de lana II: Resultados / Wool dyeing II: The Outcome

Les presento a "Langostino"
Meet "langostino" (shrimp)

This is the result of my experiment with juice mix dyeing. Pretty nice.
I've gotten a rather peculiar shrimp color.

I went to great pains to avoid uniformity and I'm pleased with the variegatin: Kettle dyed! I think you can appreciate it in this pic:

So I now have 50 grams of pure wool, shrimp colorway, kettle dyed. Are you ready for me, "Manos"?

Hi kiddies! Remember my first failed attempt at dyeing wool?

Si les parece, voy a ir documentando mi nuevo intento y vemos qué sale.
If it's ok with you, I'll document my latest attempt and will see all together how it comes around.

I read these instructions at Knitty. As usual, part of my ideas come from there, part from Ravelry, and the biggest part from other knitters' advice (THANK YOU!).
An original kind of gal, yeah, that's me.

I did mess with the instructions anyway. Being unoriginal is one thing, but acting like meek sheep is quite another. Which is a good thing, or I'd be shearing myself and knitting me up.

Setp 1: I dunked the wool in a sinkful of water during half an hour. Water temperature: just as it flowed from the faucet. At that point it had not occurred to me to document this, so there is no photo.

Step 2: I mixed one packet of unsweetened berries juice mix with three cups of water and one cup of vinegar in a regular pan. The instructions mentioned more juice and no vinegar, but what do they know?

BTW, please have a look at the juice packet in the photo. Doesn't it promise to be a bit more purplish than the mixed liquid? Never mind.

Note: I wanted a subtle variegation, sort of kettle dyed. Therefore I didn't swirl the wool in the dye bath.

Paso 3: a hervir bajito.
Step 3: slow simmer.

Progress after 20 minutes (see how the water has become clear? Looks like the wool has soaked up all the color.)

Setp 4: turn off the heat and let it cool off.

Step 5: rinse oh so carefull at the same temperature of the wool. We don't want it to felt. When it was nice and cold, it wash with some dish soap.

Here is the resulting hank drying up a bit on a towel.

Right now, it's hanging from my kitchen window.

Tiempo transcurrido de principio a fin: 40 minutos
Total dyeing time: 40 minutes

¡GRACIAS A TOD@S POR SUS IDEAS Y SUGERENCIAS!
A big thank you to you all for your ideas and suggestions!

"cosita"?
I'll show how it comes out on a future post. Now, regardless of the dyeing thing, I'm wondering: are we all sure we cand drink the stuff? Is it safe for us humans to drink? Don't you find it, I don't know... scary?

This was my first failed experiment at kool aid dyeing (ignore the messy kitchent, will'ya?):

Linda porquería, eh? Al principio parecía que todo andaba bien:
Awful, uh? At first, it all seemed ok.

Then I started worrying. The bath water was supposed to turn transparent but instead, it remained colored...

I eventually took the yarn out and as soon as I rinsed it, the color went through the drain!

I'm sure the problem was that the yarn wasn't really 100% wool, as I thought.

I'm choking it down to experience. Does anybody know if I could possibly dye this with other type of dye? What can I possibly do with this yarn now?

Listo el sexto panel:
Panel six is ready:

Parecen ramitas, no?
Looks like slender twigs, right?

On a different note, what do you think of the yarn I'm using? I'm not loving the color, although I'm not going to start over...

Pinwheel

Wednesdays are, official off knitting days. I need a broader experience of life!

For example, I need to show you a belated evidence of advancement in the pinwheel sweater I blogged about here, if ever so mysteriously.
It's a beautiful yarn, the colors are sublime. It's taking forever in the finishing though, I stopped counting at 400 stitches.

¿Gente? No, esperás acá, apretada y paradita, qué tanto. ¿No es que tenías frío?Ahora te llamos: "andreapg!!!!!!".

¿Llegaste?
NO, derechos no tenés. Ninguno. Callate la boca y esperá.

Y seguí temblando, OK?

Atentamente,

Sweater del día / Sweater of the day

*******

You know how some blogs publish their sweater of the week/month? Either one recently finished by the author, or maybe the one they are wearing?
My coveting more and more knitted garments added to my ever so negligible knitting abilities will result in my posting, every so often, a "sweater I want to knit right now, but which I'm not going to start yet because (insert pretext of the day)".

This is the cardigan for today. Credits first: the designer is Cheryl Kemp, her website is divaknitting. This is a free pattern you can get at her site or through Ravelry.

What do I like about it? All that lace detailing from the waist down (and from the elbows down too). For some reason, I also enjoy tremendously the yarn over raglan increases. I also think there front opening looks good, and it has a nice body-hugging silhoutte. I would knit it a bit roomier for myself, but still.

So what do you think? Maybe you have knitted it already?

Beckham and I

Since it is Friday, and I'm a bit silly today, I will make a confession. I'll bet you didn't know about David Beckham's infatuation with me. See the ipod (and the tatoo).
