Cuidado! / Danger!

I was just reading this piece of news about the woman who accidentally stuck a needle into her heart. Go read it if you want!
Then come back and tell me if I'm wrong: Keep you needles on the ground floor!

Boa de gasa / Gauze boa

y foto alpédica de mi Pancho.
and gratuituos Pancho pic.

At the request of a fellow knitter, who wanted to see better pictures of the yarn used for this piece, I've uploaded some more, clearer pictures.

And, as I said before, the canine model shoot. As you can se from the "subtle" tip of tongue showing there, I had to bribe him with some food so he would let me take a picture.

Seguimos mañana!
See you back tomorrow!

Cardigan al revés / Top down cardi

I'm knitting a top down cardigan in circulars. This is the first time I do it, and it was a spur of the moment thing. I've been considering the idea for a long time, but I never quite set to do it. Finally, I started it almost as an experiment, so I didn't look up any patterns, I didn't make a gauge swatch, nothing. I just eyeballed the number of stitches and cast on. The funny thing? I "think" I got it exactly right.

Since it was an experiment, I used this magenta, rustic cotton/lurex blend (BTW, did you know that "lurex" is a brand, instead of a generic name for this thread? This I got from Yanabey as an exchange for another yarn I returned. (Just another side note, on its webpage, Yanbey describes this yarn as "light and bold. Ohhh, go figure)
Obviously, just one 170 gr hank would not be enought for a size XL cardigan. So I had to go back to the store and get two more hanks. Luckily, I got the same color and batch, otherwise, this would have been another UFO.

So here you have two pictures. The first one shows mi progress so far. I'm right where you need to separate the arms from the body.

The second is a close up so can see the yarn a bit better. Can you see the tiny sparkles?

As you may see, I might be an XL size, but what I'm not is... well... understated. No, really, this color looks reat for my snow white complexion (my dear English speaking readers, the Spanish metaphore is "tit white". But isn't snow white more elegant? I'm so pleased with my contribution towares expanding your Spanish vocabulary... you can thank me later)

El cumpleaños del mundo / The Birthday of the World

Short post today. Just to tell you I've finished reading "The Birthday of the World" and, as almost everything by Ursula K. Le Guin, it is utterly fascinating. If you are in the mood for some fantasy reading, I totally recommend it. You can find it in Amazon (and in any other bookstore, I guess)

What about some pottery today?

I threw this jug out of stonware, with a high temperature mottled beige glaze.

¡Por fin! / Finally!

Look at the little present I got yesterday:

¿Más de cerca? / A closer look?

Looks like this post had been written on purpose.

More than two months ago I purchased on ebay a lot of superwash undyed wool sock. The idea was, precisely, to try and experiment a bit with different colors. I also purchased a set of bamboo DPNs. I never got any of it, until yesterday that is.

¡Qué buena sorpresa!
What a nice surprise!

Just a note: the delay was due to the postal service or customs, I'll never know which. In any case I have nothing but good refernces for the seller, Ingrid from Yarn Workshop, located in Hong Kong, who sent the products as stated (her customs statement is dated). She always answered to my emails and even offered to replace the whole package if I didn't receive it.

El bolso / The bag

Here is a process picture of the bag. It's kind of nicer in real life but really, it doesn't look like much yet!

Locura / Nuttiness

For those of you who read me in English, the link will do just fine. Go read and then tell me who's the craziest:
http://www.adn.com/play/arts/features/story/663201.html

A ver qué hacen los demás / Let's see what other people are up to

I frequently read blogs from other countries. I like to see what other people are doing, and to admire some products I cannot find here. Such as hand dyed wool. Here (in Argentina) there is some hand dyeing, but not in the colors I usually see abroad. And though dyeing can be a fun business, I'm not that high on energy lately.

I'm mentioning this because I was browsing Artesanum and I found some beautiful yarn, like the one on the left. Isn't it beautiful? It's made by some Uruguayan artisan. Still a bit far away for me. Isn't there any Argentine gal/guy somewhere doing some beautiful hand dyeing?
Don't look my way, but I'm throwing it out there...
Now what am I doing? I'm still knitting the bag. I have to go get me a handle now. I'm thinking maybe I should have started with that to be sure about measurements and stuff. Well, I'll think of something!

¿Qué estarán mirando? / What are you looking at?

Today, I'm back to work (or rather, I'm at the office, sitting at my desk, in front of the screen, writing this post... whatever)

And I was wondering what is it that my dear blogaudience looks at when you visit this blog. Besides from the day's post, that is.

So, if you would be so kind and have a minute to spare, I would appreciate if you could answer the poll it put here on the right.

Also, I'm working on this knitting tote (the free pattern can be found here)

I'm using the color below (zorro 3729). It looks more beautiful in real life, kind of worn out black suede.

We'll have to wait and see what comes of it since (let's milk the hypothyroidism excuse as much as possible) the stitch pattern looks a bit more "caotic" in my purse, and the measures are totatally off -but it's a bag, so who cares!

I'd love to post a picture of the real thing, but my camera's batteries are off and I didn't have the chance of solving this minor glitch yet :-)

Toma I / Take I:

Parece metal, no?
Ceramic charm made in my pottery workshop. It looks like metal, right?

Toma II / Take II

Otro colgante de cerámica / Another ceramic charm.
Toma III / Take III
Choker made by me during my seclusion (yeah, swatshop labor, so what :-)

Toma IV / Take IV

Mini seed beads choker (would some come tie my hands, please?)

That's all for today. If not my sanity, apparently I still have some fine motor skills.

Crónica V / Chronicles V

Desde el bunker, día 5 / From the bunker, day 5

A bit longer today. Here I am, feeling better. Yesterday I finished reading the book I told you about. If you like science fiction, I totally recomend it.
By the way, I'm reading "Illness as a path". Quite hard reading.

Blah.
Oh, I also watched a movie: "Eyes wide shut". I can't decide if it was boring or just plain bad. Blah.

And just for eye candy, these are some bowls I I gave my friend bandida some time (quite some time!) ago. Hand thrown by me, obviously!

Crónica IV / Chronicles IV

Desde el bunker, día 4 / From the bunker, day 4

Pasó mi hermano a visitarme. Ohhh! Un ser humano! Iupiiiiii!

***

Today, a really short post. Please don't hold it against me, but I didn't feel like doing much. So I don't have much to show you. This day, here at the bunker, it was mostly about reading Worlds of Exile and Illusion, and a lot of napping.
I talked to some people on the phone and in the afternoon, suprise! My brother dropped by. Ohhh, a human being! Yessssssss. We chatted for a little bit, from afar, and it was super comforting.

Tomorow will be another day.

Crónica III / Chronicles III

Desde el bunker, día / From the bunker, day 3

The issues of the day seem to be: 1. why I'll never be an anorexic, and 2. my incapacity to calculare measures at all.

A ver, tema 1. / So, issue 1.
How many people do you know that deal with nausea by... eating? Shouldn't it be bad to eat if you are feeling this? Beause I get better when I eat a little (!)

Y en cuanto al otro tema / As for issue 2.

Remember I'd bought 80 grams of gauze ribbon to knit a little something for my neck?

Eh... me salió lindo.
Eh... it turned out beautiful. Very, very soft against the skin, so I can wear it next to my scar.

But as far as being a "little" something... I ended up with a 2,2 mt long boa. Let's say that since it's so soft an airy, it's quite beautiful, but as for my calculus abilities... oh well!

¿Unas fotitos? / A few shots?

Nothing beats a shot against the bathroom mirror, uh?

Un acercamiento / A close up shot

Y una a contraluz. Vaporosa, eh? / And one against the light. Airy, uh?

I knitted it horizontally on some long wooden, 7mm needles.

Hermosos colores y textura.
Awsome colors and texture. The drawback: it snags like crazy all the time!

This was all for today from chez PGN. I might have something quite different for tomorrow.

Cronica II / Chronicles II

Desde el bunker, día 2 / From the bunker, day 2

Well, apparently I was tempting fate yesterday when I said I good I felt cause today... long live to nausea.

Luckily, at around 4PM the antinausea meds kickedin and I could eat this nutricios lunch (hmmmm):

Vamos a cosas mejores: / Better things happened, though:
¿Se acuerdan de esta cosita arrugada? / Remember this little lumpy thing?

Luego de un poco de esto: / After a little bit of this:

Real color is as in the pin pic above. The light is not helping today. I promise that when I can get out of here I'll potograph it outdoors, so that you can see it in all its glory.

YEAH!
In this last one, a view of the wonderful pico edge, knitted along with the body, so that there is no border to add later.

How I'd like it that you to see it and touch it for real. It's amazing how this yarn changes with wet blocking (and the knitters back pain, but let's gloss that one over). From this tense and lifeless thing into a wonderful silk, with perfect drap and a beautiful champagne color that is proving so difficult to capture in a photo.

I wonder: given the circumstances under which it was finished, should I rename this as the RadiactiveMuir?

/The Rosemary Hill design can be found here.

Impecable, lo recomiendo. / Flawless desing, I highly recommend it.

Cronica de un encierro anunciado I / Chronicles of a reclusion foretold I

Parafraseando a García Marquez
Paraphrasing García Marquez

Desde el bunker, día I / From the bunker, day I

I got the radioactive iodine today. For the first time ever, I truly realized how close together we live in this city. How I suffer the short distance from the nuclear medicine center to the parking garage where my car was. 100 meters of pure anguish. It's almost impossible not running into people. And how to stand in line to pay the ticket when you have to be at least 10 ft from everyone? To pay and ask for your change? I managed, but confirme: wee really live one on top of each other, really!

Now, all alone in my bunker, I'm easier. What do you think of my stock?

1. Teléfono para estar en contacto / Phone, so that I can remain in contact with everybody

2. Computadora: idem / Computer, same as above.

3. Libros (¡gracias gabrielaay y Mariana!) / Books (thank you gabrielaa and Mariana!)

4. Pelis (¡gracias Silvia!) / Movies (thank you Silvia!)

5. Freezer lleno / Freezerfull

Y... / And...

6. ¡Tejido! / Knitting!

Chaleco hmmm / Hmm Vest

Let's start the year with an oldie (since I have nothing new to show you!), and a streak of honesty.

I knit this vest some years ago. It is a very definite yellow color, this time the photo is the true color. It's made of rustic cotton, bought I don't know where.

Se up close a detail of the stitches. This texture, in cotton. I was younger then :-)

Acá se los presento modelado.
Here it is being modeled.

¿Lindo? Hmmm.
Nice? Hm. Let's see some details. How do you like the shoulder seam? On the other hand, the button band is perfect.

And here it is being modelled in all true honesty. I know it looks weird around the bottom, but that part is alright (it's just a bit stretched from never having been given some buttons). These shoulders though... aren't they just too big?

So what do I have here: a yellow cotton vest, knit with a lot of effort, with a lot of texture. The sweing is not good, the armsycles too big. And, I don't know if I mentioned this, it is, well... yellow.

Do I put buttons and consider it done? Or should I have it reborn into something else?

Also, the model has expressly stated he will never wear this.
