Así soy yo a fin de año/ This is me at the end of this year

For those of you who do not know me, here is a cartoon of myself, done at a recent party (notice the clever scarf hidding my scar). For those of you who do know me in person... what do you think?

Endpaper mitts

Oi, oi, the things I have to do to keep you people entertained! Such as, for example, trying to photograph "the one" endpaper mitt I've knit (it should look like these), the ones I started at the hospital.

Out of all the shoots I took, this is the only one resembling reality. I tried to take some arsty pictures of my own posing hand, but sadly enough, it looked rather "dead"... so here you have instead a sneak peak at what the mitts will look like when finished.

LOL
I think a New Year goal for me will be to learn how to take nicer pics of my work. Though look at the bright side, my pictures today, well, you can't say I'm fooling anyone as to my knitting abilities, LOL:

Tejiendo en Navidad / Christmas knitting

¡Feliz Navidad! ¿Qué estoy haciendo esta mañana? Tejiendo un Muir (shawl).
Merry Christmas! What am I doing this morning? Knitting a Muir shawl:

Así está por ahora. Así debería verse cuando esté terminado. (Más o menos, pienso hacerlo mucho más pequeño):
This is how it looks now. And this is how it's supposed to look in the end (kind of, I'm planning a shorter version)

Esta foto es un detalle del punto. Todo antes de estirarlo, por supuesto!
This other pictures is a close up. Pre-blocking, of course.

And this last one, showing so little detail, is just here because it shows the true color and shine of the whole thing. Will I ever be able to capture true color and shape in the same shot?

I'm using a hand made silk I got from Milana. This is it's "out of the cone" texture. No big deal. But after web blocking... heavenly texture.

Now, you don't sit around expecting it to see it finished soon, right?

And what are you all doing today, on Christmas? (For all the trouble I had getting to the Internet, I guess you are all online...)

Tratamientos / Treatment

I just want to warn you that this post relates to the illnes I'm going through, so if you are not interested, or maybe it unsettles you somehow, please stop reading here and we'll meet again in next post, ok?

I wanted to tell you that on January 9 I'll become the radioactive woman, the new Buenos Aires Hero woman (what's that, "heroine"?). That is to say, I'll get my ablative dosis of I131 (radioactive iodine) and then I'll have to stay in isolation for a whole week, rather like a nun.

I'll be on a very restrictive diet for two months before that, I can only eat meat or chicken, fruit and some vegetables. What an austere Year End it's going to be!

And a week after the iodine thing, I'll have to go through a full body scan to detect where the remaining malignant cells are located. I've already been warned that in this first scan, there always are some cells remaining in the place where the thyroid used to be, so I should panick.

So therefore... let's bet: a week home alone (not even my doggiefriend Pancha can stay with me), shall I get into a knitterly frenzy or shall I not even think of it? Will I manage to at least finish the endpaper mitts I started in the clinic?

Pssst. Me enojé.
Ahhh, something else I really wanted to tell you, since I find it so awful. At first, I thought this was somehow related to the silly young girls who get the phones at my health insurance. But then I discovered that even the best doctors, in their fancy offices, call this disease I have "thyroid ca". What? What does "ca" mean? What are we, 5 year olds? How is a person expected to face cancer when it can't even be named? How do you get healthy from something that doesn't even have a name. Shheesh, I'm pissed now.

¿Regalos tejidos? / Knitted gifts?

Reading as I am so many foreign blogs, I wonder if any of you people are knitting something to give away for Christmas. I realize that this being the southern hemisphere, heat and all, we are not going to gift away socks, hats, or scarves (or are we?). But, I don't know, maybe lace scarves, amigurimis, pot holders, something...

I confess I don't do it, not in your wildest dreams. This knitter has learn to inflict her knitting only onto those who appreciate it enough, and then again, only if they pleade for it to my entire satisfaction. On the contrary, no, never.

But actually, moved by some sudden strike of affection, a few days ago after my elderly aunt expressed her love for my summer lace sample shawl, I offered to knit something similar to her. Thank God she said no! I don't know what possessed me at the time that I offered such a thing!

So what do you do. Are any of you crazy enough to be knitting or crochetting Christmas gifts?

Agujas y algo más / Needles and an extra

As promised, the needles I got at the Fair. All of them DPN guatambuy wood. Three sets, Nº 4 and 40 cm long; Nº 6, 20 cm long, and Nº 3, 20 cm long.

Plus two different tapestry needles, which I insist in losing.

And, I'm sure you will wonder what are those magnific plates the needles are lying on... well, they are these:

My latest pottery thing. Made by these two hands from a ball of clay to the hand painting.

Today I visited this year handmade stuff fair. There were plenty of beautiful stuff, though I beelined for the fibery area.

Ejem. Vean foto.
I went with the idea of getting some dpns and a little, tiny, bit of wool, only if there was something I really enjoy. Well... see the pic below:

Let's say it was not exactly what I'd planned. I spent way over what I had set aside, but I still think I got good stuff at a good price.

Vamos por partes? Let's break it down:

The hank you see in the middle, just pushing to get out of the picture, is pure wool, two ply, hand woven and hand dyed in Catamarca (a northern province in my country). I love the color, how it varies within the hank.

Here it is held by me so you can see the weight, which is quite interesting (and we can also see I could use some photography lessons and some hand mosturizer, what are you gonna do!)

The first hank on the left, is natural llama, two ply, pretty thin. It's also hand woven. I bought it to knit a shawl some day.

Otra foto de escala / Another "see the weight" shot:

Casi comestible!
Finally, the rightmost hank, is also llama from Catamarca, two ply, hand woven. It's not dyed, but you can see how in some pictures there are two colores plied together, a chocolatey brown and cream. Yummy, good enough to eat.

And the needles, my friend, in a future post cause I have to go get myself something to eat!

Siguen los tejidos terminados / More finished stuff

This shiny and see through cardi was knit in the blink of an eye. The first time I knit ruffles, they came out alright, I think. For once, it's exactly what I wanted it to be. Eye catching piece of nothing to wear on summer evenings, in air conditioned places. It's weightless, sparkly, I'm sensing a bit hit. I'm going to wear it to my office year end party, with black pants a black camisole underneath the cardi.

The yarn is acrylic from Milana. Knit with 6 mm needles, wo it's quite open and has a beautiful drape to it.

Estoy muy contenta con este saquito! I'm very happy with this!

¿Algo tejido? / Some knitting?

Hola,

While I've been home getting better after surgery, I've been knitting a bit, and finishing up some UFOs.

Today I canfinally show you the summer lace sample I took several months to knit (and then some more to finish).

Me quedó enormemente largo.
It is a beast of a shawl. Blocking it was a bitch, I had to purchase three foam planks, 1x1 mt each and a gazillion pins. But it turned out wonderful, though I don't know when I'll wear it. Maybe I'll get some ideas when winter comes. Right now, just looking at it makes me sweat! I'm super proud of it, I was good at this!

Let's see how it wears next year. The yarn is merino legger from Milana, which was kind of sucky on other projects. I hope the shawl survives, it was so hard to knit it, it would be a pity to see it ruined.

And something else... I found the missing sleeve for Hey Teach. Now I'll have no more excuses to finish it!
